The European Commission is pleased to invite you to the EU Science Service for Biodiversity high-level event on 4 December in Brussels and online (8:45 – 13:15 CET).
Collaboration between policymakers and knowledge holders is crucial in order to develop science-based policies and maintain the EU’s current lead in biodiversity governance. As the scientific pillar of the EU’s Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (KCBD), the Science Service for Biodiversity will address the current shortcomings in the interface between biodiversity science, policy and society, while also foreseeing future needs.
In December 2025, the Horizon Europe project BioAgora, which is responsible for setting up the Science Service for Biodiversity, brought policymakers and biodiversity scientists together during a dialogue event titled “Designing the Future Science Service for Biodiversity Together”. One year later, what has the Science Service achieved? How have the stakeholders progressed together towards a shared vision for the EU biodiversity science–policy–society interface?
The conference will consist of a series of keynote speeches, presentations and panel discussions including:
Keynote speech “Science-to-policy interface for biodiversity on the global scene” by Dr. Luthando Dziba, Executive Secretary of IPBES
European Commission high-level representatives’ speeches and panel
Presentation of the Science Service for Biodiversity and its achievements, including its latest deliverable: an Independent Expert Report supporting the future EU Long-Term Research and Innovation Agenda for Biodiversity
We welcome all interested policymakers and researchers (regardless of discipline), especially those involved in research programming efforts and science-policy-society interfaces.
The full agenda will soon follow. A coffee break and lunch are included in the event.
There is a strict 100-participants limit for in-person attendance. Registration will happen on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register by clicking the button below.
